Kitchen Collective #1 – Cakes

It almost didn’t happen. Most people had other plans – Christmas is only two weeks away, after all – a fact that I neglected to consider when I planned the event. But in the end there were five of us which turned out to be the perfect size for a trial run. In fact, what with all the baby excitement this week, I wasn’t nearly as prepared as I’d hoped to be. And still it all worked out. We all had some fun and, with any luck, everybody learned a little something too. At the very least we got to eat some yummy cake!

Because it was such a small group, I decided to make only two cakes; a honey genoise with poached apples and a chocolate roulade with hazelnut praline chantilly cream. Both were a bit of an experiment but turned out quite well. I’ll post the complete recipes (and photos of the finished cakes) a little later. In the meantime, here are some action shots.
